Dr. Mark Holterman, The Award-Winning Surgeon Takes on Charitable Work

As a professor at the University of Illinois and the CEO of Mariam Global Health, Dr. Mark Holterman supports various causes through his work at IPSAC-VN. On top of that, he aims to inform and educate people in the medical field by giving lectures to medical students.

In addition to being a charitable person, Dr. Mark Holterman occupies a full-time position as a medical professor at the University of Illinois. He is also a surgeon at Advocate Christ Children’s Hospital and St. Francis Center. Some of his credentials include a B.A in biology and a Ph.D., and MD from the University of Virginia.

After completing a fellowship at the University of Virginia, he became the CEO at Mariam Global Health; an organization that performs research on innovative medical technologies and child obesity.

He also co-authored some academic papers in peer-reviewed journals and gave several presentations on gastric bypass. Gastric Bypass is a type of surgery that involves removing a part of patient’s stomach to help curb food cravings. Dr. Mark Holterman was born in Wisconsin to farmer parents who had no college education. Being an excellent student made him remarkable in high school that his teachers suggested that he apply for an Ivy League school.

As he was completing his education at Yale University, he met a student named Ai-Xuan, and the two would go to have an impact on each other’s careers. Dr. Mark Holterman was influenced by her to become a surgeon while in turn, he inspired her to become a pediatrician.

Dr. Mark Holterman has more than two decades of experience as a surgeon and pediatrician. Lately, he mostly does charity work helping start-ups in the medical field.
